The base certification is the EU Organic certification ensuring that industrialized pesticides and fertilizers are not being applied.
It takes 3 years to obtain this certification.
Once the organic certification has been obtained, then the Smithsonian certification can begin. Said in short, this certification ensures and documents, that the forest, inside which the coffee bushes have been planted among the trees, still looks like a forest and functions like a forest, including its biodiversity.
